I grew up here on my dad's farm that we turned into the Sainte Genevieve Winery over 20 years ago. I'm the educated enologist and he's the experienced farmer/business man. We try to treat the land and the wine with kindness, like a member of our family(sometimes we treat them nicer than family ;)) This is our little place on earth, and I thought you might enjoy seeing it from my perspective.
This is a picture of my students (plus John) in the port cellars at Mt. Pleasant Winery. Their winemaker, Mark Baehman, is on the left, giving us a very passionate tour. I love that guy!
Port, hmmm? Can you tell me if they are using a traditional method of stopping the primary with a healthy dose of brandy? If so, can you speculate on the cost of brandy per litre or, what I'm trying to say, is it economical to produce port? Do wineries get a break in Missouri if they buy their brandy for this purpose? Have a great bud break!
Hi Bradley, Your best bet is to ask Mt. Pleasant these questions. You can click on the link on the post right before this one. I do know their port is not cheap. Their winemaker, Mark, is very approachable.
Thanks for checking in on my blog. I love yours also.
